Synopsis from Goodreads:
Jay’s one chance at getting answers is unable to provide. His sort of no-longer-an-ex-girlfriend takes the man into her employment as a bodyguard for the most critical time of her transformation. Soon she’ll be a full-fledged Vampire and no longer partially transformed. Yet this change comes with risks to all those who dare attempt completion.
His best friend is bound to remain impartial by Western Sector law and Jay will be left scrambling to win the day. He must keep the Lady Rhodes alive through the conspires stacked around them by using every resource he knows of plus some new ones hidden in the shadows of his life. What price will be required to ensure their survival, and can he pay?
My review:
I really enjoyed reading the first book in this series and was super excited to read the next book thanks to the author! What I really enjoy about these series is the mixture of different fantasy style characters such as vampires, werewolves, and elves. The take that Morse takes on these characters in the story is also really great. There's something completely different about this series that makes me enjoy it.
The story somewhat picks up where the last one left off. The first half of the book, I would say, covers Kahina working towards the night where she will make the change to become a full-fledged vampire and how Jay is feeling about everything. The house where Kahina lives and runs is taking hits from werewolves who know she is in transition. The second half of the back definitely has a lot more action in terms of Jay trying to keep Kahina safe. Although the first half wasn't as action-packed, it was nice to read a bit of what happens with Kahina and her transition, and Jay is starting to become more and more interested in why the elves call him Lord; what is he? Certainly not human. That is one of my favourite part in this series; the mystery that surrounds Jay and what he is.
Overall, I am definitely looking forward to the next series in this book. They have something a little different to them compared to the usual fantasy/thriller type and I love the different take on the characters. I hope more people will pick these books up!
Happy reading :)
