Portal 24 by Meredith Stroud

2.5 stars.

I picked up this book as a free digital copy on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The story follows Darius who ends up getting himself a 'job' of sorts working for a government project called 'Oberon' where Darius ends up travelling back in time to stop disasters from happening. On his arrival to the government project, he is pushed into a mission almost right away, the team has 24 hours to stop a disaster from happening all around the world and must return to their portal within this time so as not to be lost forever.

Now, all seems fine and dandy with the plot-line, which is the reason I picked up this book in the first place (that, and it was free!). However, the first problem I noticed was the length of the book - 150 pages! Now I thought, this is way too short for this novel, and in reading it, I was right. The overall story is a good idea and the book could have been so much better. It felt like the author wanted a quick publish to get the book out there. The story lacked depth, character development and story development - it was a rather fast paced read. Although I like fast paced books, this was too fast. The book was over before I had started reading it, most novels don't start really getting into the story until page 100-150.

Overall, a good idea for a story, but the book length and lack of depth let this book down.

Happy reading :)
