The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey

3.5 Stars.

I read the 5th wave some months ago and absolutely loved it! I was very much looking forward to reading the next book in the series. However I was much disappointed by the second book. The plot was just nowhere near as exciting and there wasn't that much going on, especially in the first half or so.

The infinite sea pretty much picks up where the first book left off. The characters that are left together are hiding out waiting for someone. This is a really hard premise to write for without spoiling too much for those of you who have not read the first book. On Goodreads, it pretty much tells you that Cassie and friends are going to try and stop the extermination of the human race. And for a large part of the book that isn't even happening.

The main thing I enjoyed about the second book was that I still like the characters and also enjoyed reading the odd chapter where you would read a little background story about a character. Waiting to see whether Evan had survived was also quite good. Yancey does know how to write a good book and his writing style is still evident in this book. My main issues was the lack of action and not really seeing where the plot was going to go.

The 5th Wave comes out in cinema next year too. The trailer looks pretty good, though I can already see just from the trailer the differences between book and film. Hopefully the film will do the book justice overall though.

Happy reading :)
