No Safe House by Linwood Barclay

4.5 stars

I mentioned a very early post for my blog that I really enjoy Barclay's books, especially that they always have a good twist in them. No safe house is supposed to be a sequel for No time for goodbye but can easily be read as a stand alone book.

The plot follows Cynthia, her husband Terry and their daughter Grace. Now, Terry's view point seems to be the only character in the book that has his name stated when it is his chapter too. Cynthia leaves home for a while to stay in a friends flat whilst she is away as her and her daughter are constantly arguing and Cynthia is being overly protective. Whilst she moves out, Grace gets into some trouble with a boy and breaks into a house, thinking she may have accidentally shot someone. The other plots within the story follow a man called Vince, who runs some type illegal business; Mafia style would be the closest thing to call it. One of Vince's guys' son is the boy who Grace breaks into the house with.

The beginning of the book begins however, with the murder of an old couple by two people who seem to be looking for something. For the majority of the book, there is the odd chapter which relates back to them looking for this 'something'.

Compared to Barclay's other books, this one did seem a lot less mysterious and not as much plot guessing. The main plot guessing was what this something to be found from the beginning of the book. That wasn't to say I didn't enjoy the book. The writing style was just as good as any of Barclay's other books and I will always look forward to reading any of his other books. I always enjoy the characters that he makes within the story and there was a pretty good twist at the end. It wasn't a massive twist, but it definitely made for a good ending. The writing style also makes for an easy and fast paced read and there was always something happening which I enjoyed too. I missed of the last half star on giving this book 5 stars only because of there not being as much twist as usual.

After a little reading online I have also found that Barclay is due to release another book on the 10th September which will be the beginning of a new series which I look forward to reading.

Happy reading :)
